Not an Equal Opportunity
April 11, 2008I’m fast approaching the end of my college career and I have begun to look for a place to live. As if apartment hunting weren’t stressful enough, in Virginia there’s a law that requires you to have a room for each unrelated individual living in the residence. I had planned on sharing an apartment with a roommate and my girlfriend. My girlfriend (see k[no]w) and I already share a room so we really only require two bedrooms. However, we must search for three bedroom apartments, greatly narrowing our options.
This housing law is not fair! It discriminates against unwed and homosexual couples. The owner of the apartment complex should decide the occupancy of the unit. So much for equal opportunity housing.
